He enlisted on the 18 May 1861.


Was on detached duty in summer of 1863, Warren Co, TN.


Listed as deserted 15 April 1865. (On 12 April 1865 General Joseph Eggleston Johnston had gone to Greensborough to meet with President Jefferson Davis from whom he obtained permission to open a peace initiative. This was opened on the 12 April 1865 and the army surrendered on the 26 April 1865. It seems he didnt wait for the surrender.)

Took Oath in Nashville, TN, 8 May 1865.


He was born Tennessee in 10 February 1841 the son of Richmond and Eliza (Martin) Dodson.


He married Augusta Catherine Evans born in Tennessee in  11 May 1847 and died 15 April 1943. She was the daughter of James Madison and Elizabeth (Wharton) Evans. They had nine children: Albert Sydney, Eugene Harrison, Romulus Cicero, James Ambrose, Jesse, John Richmond, Lucy, Ersie and George Lester Dodson.  


He died 25 June 1905 and is buried Shellsford Cemetery, McMinnville, Warren Co, TN, his wife is buried in the same cemetery.
