Was dropped from rolls as he was AWOL from 12 June 1862 to 12 October 1862.
He was born on the 23 December 1840 in Warren Co, TN, the son of James Anderson (another site says Henderson S.) and Mildred (Barnes) Safley.
He was married on 9 December 1869 in Warren Co, TN, to Phoebe Martele Drake, she was born 29 February 1852 and died 6 February1936. She was the daughter of Reuben Miller and Nancy (Isham) Drake. They had eleven children: Napoleon Bonaparte "Poley", Charity E., Ira Dee, Henderson, Mack C., Miller, Virgil Elijah, William Edwin, Octie & Ollie (twin girls), and Jessie Safley.
They moved to what is called the Buffalo Island about 1910 from Lauderdale Co. TN.
Arkansas pension filed 17 August 1912 from Craighead Co, AK.
He died on 23 December 1924 at Poplar Ridge, Craighead Co, AK, and is buried in the Monette Memorial Cemetery, Monette, Craighead Co, AK. His wife is buried with him. He has a Confederate Military marker next the monument erected to him.
