Captain James M. Parks
Born 20 February 1840 the son of Carroll and Hixey (Bullen) Parks, a farmer from Warren County, TN. His family had come from NC.
As a boy he worked on his fathers farm.
When 17 he became a member of the Baptist Church at Hebron, Middleton, TN.
He worked on his fathers farm until he was 20 and to further his education he was sent to Irving College.
He enlisted 18 May 1861 in Captain L. H. Meadow's Company.
Elected orderly Sergeant at the organization of the Company in May 1861.
He was to be elected Captain of H Company at the reorganization in 8 May 1862.
Slightly wounded at the Battle of Murfreesboro (Stone's River), TN, 31 December 1862.
He was to be wounded in the evening at the Battle of Chickamauga, TN, 19 September 1863. Hit by grapeshot that entered the upper portion of his left chest the missile finishing near his heart. He lived a few hours dying on the 20th.
Buried near the spot where he fell at Chickamauga after the war his father had his remains moved back to Tennessee and re-interned at Hebron Cemetery, Irving CollegeWarren Co, TN.
