He enlisted on the 21 May 1861 at Alisona, TN.
Wounded in left wrist at Perryville (Chaplin Hills), KY, on the 8 October 1862. Left at Harrodsburg, KY, was captured and sent to Camp Douglas, IL. Exchanged on the 9 January 1863 at Vicksburg, MS.
Appears back on rolls as on detached duty 23 August 1863 and 5 October 1863.
Was he was discharged at the surrender at Greensboro, N.C., 1 May 1865.
Pension #16217 filed 7/1/1927 in Warren Co, TN, accepted.
He was born at Thraxton, Warren Co, TN, 22 January 1840 the son of William “Billy” and Lucinda “Lyndie” (Thaxton) Blanks.
He married Sarah Permelia Duncan, born 16 October 1846 and died 12 July 1873 in Warren, Co, TN. She was the daughter of William and Artemisse P. (Rust) Duncan. They had three known children William C., John Wilburn and Armentia "Misha" Blanks.
He next married Louisa Jane Kirby on 1 October 1874, she was the daughter of Tom and Lizzie (Church) Kirby. She was born 1850 at Pike, AL, and died 1925. They had two known children Sarah Jane and James Blanks.
There is information that he had five sons and three daughters.
He died 26 December 1927 at McMinnville, Warren Co, TN, and is buried at Mud Creek Shiloh Cemetery, Rock Island, Warren Co, TN, his wives are buried with him. (The name of this cemetery was changed in 2003 when the church building was removed from the Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery)
