He was born in 1841 in Rutherford Co, TN, the son of Sherwood Green and Elizabeth (Vinson) Crocker and was the second of 15 children.
He enlisted in the Regiment on the 23 May 1861, the same day as his father.
Reenlisting into the Cavalry in 10 April 1862 as 1st Sgt. In I Co. 4th also called the 3rd (Starne’s/McLemore's) Tennessee Cavalry.
This Regiment were at the battle of second battle of Dalton, Whitfield Co, GA, 14-15 August 1864, thus there is a strong possibility that he is the Private William C. Crocker of the 16th Tennessee Infantry that and was killed in the battle.
