Private John F.
Born 26 November 1845 the son of William and Catherine "Kittie" (Finley) Brewster.
He enlisted on the 8 May 1862 at McMinnville, TN.
At reorganization in July 1863 he was dismissed as being underage, after having served two years. (Stories in the family are that John was a drummer but this is not confirmed.)
After the war he returned to White County where he was a merchant and farmer.
He married Amanda Simerell on the 21 September 1864 and they had seven children: Kittie Lou, Robert Lee, Francis Hattie, Reece, William, Mollie and Lucetta “Settie” Florence Brewster. She was born 28 January 1844 in Tennessee the daughter of Daniel and Rachael (Hunter) Simerell. She died 7 November 1913.
They briefly moved to Illinois before returning to White County where they raised their family and he lived until 1889.
That year he had an indiscretion with a young female relative he left for Texas.
He lived for a while in El Paso, TX.
In 1914 applied for a Confederate Pension but was ruled not eligible.
During his last years he visited his son-in-law William Jasper Knowles, White County, TN.
He was in a Confederate rest home, at Austin, TX, off and on from 1917 to 1922 when he died on the 21 June 1922.
His gravestone at Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church in Shady Grove area of White County, near Sparta, TN.
