Private? Americus (Ulysses?)
He was born 20 February 1840 the was the son of James and Nancy Jane (Elam) Vanhooser.
There is mention of him being in the Regiment in Tennessee Civil War Veteranís Questionnaires but nothing of his wartime history.
He married Hannah Newby on the 11/4/1861. She was the daughter of Nathan and Bethina (Jones) Newby.
She was the born 20 July 1841 in Warren Co. and died 6 April 1873 and is buried in the Blues Hill Cemetery, Warren Co, TN. Its possible that they had a son called Richard Vanhooser.
His second wife was Samentha E. Newby, sister of his first wife and with the same parents, married 21 August. She was born 14 February 1853 and died 20 April 1897 and is buried with her husband. They had eight children Della, John Walter, William James, Samuel Henderson, Hassie Jane, Floyd U. Veta May and Roy Alton Vanhooser.
A Ulysses Vanhooser was sheriff of Warren County in the mid 1880ís.
He died 17 July 1920 is most likelyburied in the Blues Hill Cemetery, Warren Co, TN, under the name Americus Ulysses Vanhooser.
(This could be our man but on page 2149 of Tennessee Civil War Veteranís Questionnaires it is said that he was killed at Atlanta, but quite often turned out to be wrong with them only wounded. Against this that Ulysses Vanhooser was sheriff of Warren County in the mid 1880's)
